How to Use Thread Prefixes
The colorful tags you'll see in front of all in-character thread titles are called prefixes. These indicate different types of threads and whether new players can join them or not. When you start a new thread, you'll need to select a prefix from the dropdown menu next to the thread title. In each region of the Stories of the Shroud forums, you can filter through thread types by clicking on their respective prefixes.
Prefix Meanings
Private - a pre-planned thread between specific participants, usually closed to random elements. You need to contact the thread starter and ask for permission before joining a Private thread.
Open - any character can join an open thread at any time. Multiple characters can chime in too, creating a group thread. It's the responsibility of the thread starter to switch the thread to "Private" when they feel enough people have joined.
Dare - an open invitation for a 1-on-1 thread. The thread is open for anyone, until the first person responds, and then it becomes locked between the thread starter and the person who responded. Good for when you want to write with new people, but don't want the chaos of a group thread.
Prompt - used during holiday months when a prompt event is running. These threads follow the game rules of that month's prompt, and are usually a bit more lighthearted. Most prompt threads will have some OOC info at the top of the post with more instructions - look there to see if the thread is prearranged (Private) or open to new participants.
Hub - permanently open locales that can have multiple scenes running in them concurrently. Like the saloons of cowboy westerns, the doors are always swingin' and characters can come in and start some new trouble at any time.
