Master of the Tempest

Age  Twenty-seven
Gender  Female
Origin  Arakshan Empire
Occupation  Runesmithing

As befitting the cradle of Arshakan imperialism, the Praetors of Naya Vapna did everything within their power to cultivate a population of noble birth and high prestige. More important than the city's livability was its' use as imperial reassurance; all those that would doubt the will of Ko need only gaze upon their capital to remind themselves of the Heavenly Father's dominion. To this end, the aforementioned Praetors have excelled. Yet in pursuit of keeping the city free of the previous capital's 'moral rot', many Praetors abandoned even the slightest notions of mercy.

The chief example of their aggressiveness was in their handling of Zenithism, a religion too fringe for all but the most scholarly Arshakans. Though the Empire was never tolerant of heretics, Zenithists were smart enough to keep their worship secret and rich enough to make sure it stayed that way. Through some combination of pragmatism and corruption, Zenithists avoided the annihilation so common of unorthodox religion--but that was within the old capital. For some of the guardsmen of Naya Vapna, however, even unspoken heresy warranted capital punishment. Within a few generations, the already-fledgling religion bordered on nonexistence.

But this was not enough.

Part 1
  • Even with her family no longer practicing Zenithism, their ties to other adherents (long since executed) means they live under constant antagonism. Their ‘crime’ is an open secret amongst their neighbors, leading to nonstop otherisation throughout Miyartha’s life. However, her family just about makes life bearable, with a special focus on her magically-talented older brother, Pylos.
  • As she matured into adolescence, her inveterate fear of the Empire transformed into a white-hot fury at Arshakan imperialism, leading to a fascination with the Weave. She had always had an interest in Magitech, yet in her (relatively) younger years this was motivated by whimsy and little else; vengeance was a far stronger motivator. While her family was impressed by her newfound stuiousness, it came with a marked decrease in her affability. Worse was the sense of guilt that she began to develop, as slowly yet surely, Miyartha began to internalize her family’s suffering as her fault. If only she was a weaver, she thought, how much better would things be?
  • Over time, Miyartha’s family was able to assuage her, with the greatest assurances coming from her brother. Despite being older, he found himself deeply inspired by her revolutionary fever, and as such wasn’t nearly as tut-tut as her parents (which Miyartha appreciated). Instead of stifling her feelings, he encouraged the teenage Miyartha to stay positive in spite of them. He emphasized that she mattered just as much as toppling the Empire did—that the latter was impossible if she was an uncouth prick the entire time. You’re doing this to help others, right? Well being yourself helps others too! These were cheesy platitudes, no doubt, but Miyartha found them nonetheless convincing.
  • Around the age of seventeen, Pylos left to visit a guild and did not come back. If nothing else, it was relieving to learn of the news rather quickly: due to getting too outspoken about the empire’s religious oppression, he’d been branded a heretic. Due to his talents as a weaver, however, he had the privilege of being left to rot in a dungeon until he swore fealty to the Empire. Of course, they could have changed their minds and killed him out of sheer annoyance. Either way, she knew they would never, ever see each other again. No matter how little, she gave them hope.
Part 2
  • Despite everything, Miyartha’s personality actually grew cheerier in the years that followed, as no matter how bleak her days had turned, she knew how he would want her to act in his absence. Her commitment to Magitech engineering doubled in its efforts, yet she made sure to keep her family and friends afloat as well. Over the next four years, she (very much on purpose) became a source of stability for not just her family, but Pylos’s former friends.
  • However, concurrent to this emotional transformation was an attempt to modify herself. In the wake of Pylos’s end, Miyartha couldn’t help but muse about how powerless she would’ve been to stop it if she were present—but it did not have to be so, right? Her attention shifted to magitech augmentations of the physical body, something that even seasoned engineers (much less teenage ones) strayed away from. More specifically, she wanted the powers of a raging storm, ones that could threaten any opponent: ice, lightning and torrential winds, all in the palm of her hand!
  • After five years of continuous work and assistance from her closest friends, at the age of twenty-two, the Tempest Engine was complete. If it worked the way she’d imagined, equipping it would grant her tremendous elemental control at the cost of painful physical feedback. She slipped it on and equipped it with the prerequisite Shroudstones. Upon its' activation, it nearly ripped her apart.
  • The next time she woke up, her skin was bluer her diamonds, her hair had lost all colors, and three quarters of her body was devoured by burns. Alone in her room, she outstretched her left arm to try and pull herself off her bed, consequently howling in pain. She tried for her other arm and found she’d only her left.
Part 3
  • If there was any silver lining to the life she’d lived, it was that Miyartha learned she could not break. Down a brother, down an arm and forever cursed to be cold to the touch, Miyartha pressed on anyways. Though recovering from her burns took well over a year, the aid of magic allowed her a full recovery much faster than without it. The gold she’d ascertained over the years allowed her a prosthetic arm that she could continue her Magitech engineering with—and three years later, the Tempest Engine was reborn, now a full-fledged prosthetic. In addition to the aforementioned elements, the new appendage would help to regulate her temperature, making daily life much less tasking. Upon activating the Tempest Engine II, she was more than prepared for this, too, to malfunction, but as it turned out, she had learnt from experience. The device worked without fail.
  • Since then, a year has passed. She had a rather memorable experience with a Knight of Anathaeum, one that has made her consider the organization an enemy. But that is to be elucidated later…

Appearance

Height  1.75 meters
Build  Lean
Hair  White
Eyes  Brownish Red with yellow eyes

Despite her best attempts to pass as an unremarkable Devahni, even cursory inspections generate intrigue; beyond her skin tone, little of her registers as Ashblood. Her lack of horns, un-sharpened nails and tailless behind betray any possibility of her possessing Ashkin leverage. Ultimately, though, her skin draws little attention--her magitech arm is far more distracting.

The aforementioned prosthetic is what replaces her right arm; her left is covered almost entirely in dark-purple bandages. The heavy cloak she carries around is to try and veil both limbs as much as she can, as well as raising her own temperature. Beneath her clothes lays a mazelike pattern of bruises scars, stretching from her forearm to her calves.

Personality

Bold, brash and embarrassingly sentimental; ashamed of the past and afraid for the future; strong-willed and whip-smart; loyal to a fault; bitter to the end. At a glance, her sunny disposition and tendency for chatter seem incongruous with her bottomless capacity for spiteful vengeance, even with those negative feelings being very targeted. Friends and enemies alike often conclude that one half of her persona is a facade while the other is the 'real' Miyartha, the person she is when free of pressure.

A much truer summary of her attitude is that all parts of her performative, for indeed, she is never free of pressure. The only life she has ever known is one where her world hangs on her shoulders. Miyartha has an insatiable drive to be a vanguard for every cause she believes in, and she cares nothing for how taxing her mentality would be--physically, mentally or otherwise. Why wouldn't she be a beacon of optimism so that everyone she meets could rely on her? Why wouldn't she view the eradication of those that wronged her as something responsible exclusively to her?

Skills

In lieu of any direct control over the weave, Miyartha commits herself to Magitech engineering, with a focus on weapons, prosthetics and, to a lesser extent, vehicles. She makes up for her relatively young age with a lifelong connection to magitech, though it isn't hard to tell that she relies more on talent than tutelage. Even still, she is undeniably commendable; there are few artifacts like the Tempest Engine.

As a child, she liked to play-fence whenever she had the time to. Had she two good arms, perhaps she would have become a respectable fencer.
