Happy Holidays, shroud weavers!

For our New Year's resolution, we are banning the use of generative AI in all areas of our forum.

But why?
There are many ethical reasons to curb the use of AI, from its impact on the environment to dodgy businesses that steal creative works to train their generative models. Our reason for banning AI is a little more straightforward: BECAUSE IT SUCKS!!!!

AI was not designed to make art, it was designed to sell products. And we are not selling anything on shroudweavers.com

Forum RP is an artistic hobby space. We are a community of writers, artists, and musicians from all across the world coming together to build a collaborative story. Different characters, different perspectives and habits and writing styles, one eccentric, sprawling, messy, always unfinished, always ongoing creative project.

This forum is hosted independently so that you, you beautiful artists, can write and create and experiment in peace. There aren't very many places like this left out there. Don't fucking ruin it with somebody else's ponzi scheme.

From now on, all use of generative AI is fully banned on Shroudweavers. This includes using AI generated images in avatars and posts, using AI to generate idea prompts, and using AI to write or re-write any part of a post.

What is generative AI?
Generative AI uses large datasets of (often stolen) assets to construct text, images, music, or code based off of an inputted prompt. ChatGPT and DALL-E are examples of common generators. Things like Spell Check and translation tools are not generative AI.

But it helps my creative process!
No it doesn't. We'll be coming out with a guide about how to avoid gen AI, and which creative methods to use instead of prompt generation.

Is my stuff going to be taken down?
We won’t be retroactively removing gen AI posted prior to this rule, though we do encourage players to start looking for replacements on their own. Going forward, if gen AI is posted, a staff member will remove the content. This does not mean the poster is in trouble - we understand that it’s not always easy to identify. Mistakenly posting gen AI will not reflect poorly on anyone.

However, we can tell the difference between accident and active use. Intentional use of gen AI in any part of the creative process will be subject to moderation.
